In November 2011 On-Site Kitchen Rentals Ltd negotiated the supply of a large number of temporary kitchen and dining installations for the 2012 London Olympics.
We were asked by Arena Leisure PLC to supply the Olympic venues of Greenwich and Eton Dorney with installations to feed competitors, family and friends, dignitaries and staff.
Retail units for the public were also needed throughout each site.
A spokesperson for Arena Leisure PLC, said:
At a late stage in the planning process On-Site Kitchens were capable of supplying us with 22 marquee, maxi and sprinter kitchens as well as a full onsite service engineer attendance for our catering requirements at the London 2012 Olympics. A helpful and professional service and a great company to work with.
We all know how the story went and the games were hailed as a great success and an achievement for the UK to be proud of.
The £450,000 plus contract was good news for our company too, along with existing and new staff and clients alike.
We designed and built a whole new range of Temporary Portable Kitchens and Kiosks for this project, noticeably increasing the size of our hire fleet and bringing it up to date with the latest developments.
The additions included a new range of Cold Rooms for internal and external use, along with our other new units.
In total, there were 22 installations over the two sites utilising 400 pieces of Catering Equipment.
The sites made excellent use of our temporary kitchen and dining Marquees, catering for well over 150,000 people in total, including an unexpected further 2,500 military personnel drafted in as additional security at short notice.
Marquees were split to create a total of 14 separate dining areas over the two sites, with up to 250-300 seats per marquee.
These were used to feed competitors, family and friends, dignitaries and the workforce and were supplied from spacious kitchen marquees containing refrigeration, preparation, production and dishwashing areas.
In the public arenas, our mobile Sprinter units were put to good use as retail fast food take-away kitchens to keep the spectators well fed.
Elsewhere, our Maxi kitchens were also used to feed the family of some competitors at Queen's House, Greenwich.
Just as it was for the British athletes, the games were a triumph for On-Site Kitchen Rentals Ltd.
Logistics included a co-ordinated approach, working with a wide range of contractors and in adherence to strict health and safety controlled by ISG.
Our skilled engineers were based permanently in London and the operation ran smoothly throughout. In addition to installation, they supplied service to all aspects of running, including changing over 500 47kg gas bottles during their 3 months on site.
We're proud to report though, that their key skills weren't put to the test post installation. Throughout the Olympic and Para-Olympic games we supplied 400 pieces of catering equipment and only had one service call!
In fact, our clients happily commented that our supply and installation constituted an excellent service and we were soon recommended for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.
Cordia, working on behalf of Glasgow City Council, commented:
On-Site were recommended to us as they had created temporary kitchens facilities for a number of the London Olympic venues in 2012. They assisted us with the development and design before providing the catering equipment and installation of the temporary kitchen facilities for The Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.
Throughout the process they performed to a high standard and delivered a first class facility for our catering team. For major events you need a partner who is flexible, supportive and willing to go that extra mile. On-Site went above and beyond and we would have no hesitation in recommending their services.
